About

Background Information:

The Campbell River Comets Track and Field Club was formed in 1994 to fill a void in the Campbell River sporting community. For many years, the city lacked a competitive Track and Field program to meet the needs of many enthusiastic young athletes within our community. Through the Comets Track Club, many of our young athletes have represented Zone 6 at the BC Summer Games in the sport of track and field.

Under the leadership of 1st Club President, Paul Messinger, the club began with a roster of about 30 eager young members. In its first year, the club showed that it had a very strong core group of athletes, with a promising future ahead. In spite of being one of the few remaining communities on the Island with an outdated "red cinder" track, the Comets Track team has managed to excel on the track and field circuit on Vancouver Island. It is our goal that in the near future, we will have an up-to-date all-weather  running track for our athletes and other sports to benefit from.

The C.R. Comets Track and Field Club is open to any athlete, from ages 9 to adult, although the emphasis is on the younger members. Most of the competitive meets that the club attends caters to the 9- 15 years (JD) category. Our older athletes compete in their age respective meets in the province. There are several sanctioned JD meets during the regular season on the Vancouver Island circuit, listed in our club handbook. In addition, there are provincial championship meets for each age category. These are open to the more serious and talented athletes in the club.

The Campbell River Comets will continue to turn out many fine athletes to represent Campbell River on the Track and Field scene in the province for many years to come.
